Junior mechanical designer

Summary 

The Junior Mechanical Designer is responsible for carrying out pre-engineering work (sketches, prototypes, testing, etc.), as well as creating drawings and 3D models for active projects within their discipline.

Roles and responsibilities

The mechanical concept to the responsible parties:

  • Validate and test concepts (prototyping capability);
  • Understanding the basics of part manufacturing processes;
  • Conceptualizing mechanical systems;
  • 3D modeling and basic experience in 2D technical drawings;
  • Propose a selection of mechanical equipment (machines and conveyors) appropriate to the project's needs;
  • Propose appropriate mechanical solutions for the execution of the project;
  • Prepare the equipment layout plans;
  • Under supervision, design custom parts and assemblies;
  • Sign and seal engineering documents;
  • Provide support for the installation of mechanical equipment at the customer's premises;
  • Communication with other team members, internal and external;
Qualifications

The position requires the following qualifications:
  • BAC in mechanical engineering, automated production or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience.
  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec;
  • French and English functional.
Special requirement
  • Good knowledge of mechanical systems in an industrial environment (robotic systems, conveyor lines and industrial equipment, experience in detailed design);
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical design software such as Solidworks and Autocad;
  • Knowledge of machine safety methods and standards - an asset;
  • Knowledge of industrial automation - an asset;
  • Knowledge of various industries - an asset;
  • A driver's license is an asset; the position may require travel. 
  • Good interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
