Mandate

The PCI team performed the electrical engineering and programming work for the four new tanks that make up the production process as well as for the clean-in-place (CIP) system.

As part of this mandate, PCI performed the following tasks:
•Functional analysis for the production process, in collaboration with the process consultant and the customer.
•Adjustments to the P&ID.
•Electrical design of the control panels.
•Design of the Ethernet network to enable effective communication between the PLCs and with the SCADA system in the server room.
•Configuration of the virtual machine environment for the SCADA system server and clients.
•PLC programming for the production tank process control and for the CIP system.
•SCADA configuration, in a client-server architecture.
•Configuration of Raspberry Pi microcomputers to operate as Thin Clients for remote display of the SCADA pages.
•Supervision of the electrical installation.
•System start-up at the plant.
•24/7 Support.

Solutions deployed by PCI

•Modular control system using Ethernet/IP communication, with the control components strategically positioned within the production and packaging rooms. This strategy allowed us to reduce the number of cables and conductors that needed to be run in the ceilings, providing us with the ability to react quickly to last-minute changes by the customer.
•SCADA installed on virtual machines to facilitate deployment and make the application resistant to future problems resulting from computer failure and obsolescence that happen with physical machines.
•Operator screens deployed on the plant floor using touch screen monitors communicating through Thin Clients. This reduces the quantity of computer hardware that is installed on the plant floor and prevents the loss of data that can occur when a computer exposed to the rigours of the production environment fails.

•Rockwell ControlLogix architecture.
•CompactLogix processors with Point I/O.
•GE Proficy iFix SCADA in a client-server architecture.
•Virtual machines operating in a VMWare ESXi environment
•ThinClients running on Raspberry Pi microcomputers connected to touch-screen monitors.
