Senior designer-programmer (PLC)

Summary

The senior designer-programmer programs PLCs, operator interfaces, robots and/or SCADA systems according to the directives of the client and the project manager. Depending on their experience, they may be involved in designing logic, project documentation and training plans for the client.

Roles and responsibilities

The designer-programmer has the following responsibilities:

  • Selection of control equipment appropriate to the project needs;
  • Preparation of a control architecture and main parts lists;
  • Preparation of PLC input and output lists;
  • Preparation of equipment cost assessments, in collaboration with the project manager;
  • Programming of PLCs, operator interfaces, robots and HMI ;
  • Communication with other team members, both internal and external;
  • Program testing prior to commissioning at the customer's site;
  • Testing of control panels at the manufacturer's site;
  • Supervision and support for the installation of the control system at the customer's site;
  • Program commissioning at the customer's site;
  • Training of the customer's operators or technicians;
  • Production support after commissioning.

Qualifications

The position requires the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in automated production engineering or electrical engineering;
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar position;
  • Functional English and French.

Specific requirements

The position requires the following:

  • Experience in the manufacturing sector;
  • Knowledge of systems used in the manufacturing field - an asset;
  • Knowledge of machine safety methods and standards – an asset;
  • Ability to travel to client sites or abroad;

*The future employee must be adaptable with regard to travel, whether in Quebec, elsewhere in Canada or internationally.
